Welcome to the Department of Robotics and Automation Engineering. The department is recently established by the Institute from A.Y. 2020-21 with a UG program of intake capacity of 60.  This program is approved by AICTE, New Delhi and Affiliated to the Savitribai Phule Pune University. The department of Robotics and Automation Engineering is established to meet the growing demand for trained engineers in the field of Robotics and industrial Automation. Robotics and Automation Engineering is a cross functional discipline that requires sound, proportional knowledge in hardware as well as software development and their applications. In the present era of mass customization, industries have to produce personalised product with a large quantities and at lower cost. This has led to real time scheduling which can be performed only by machines and robots. Hence there is a great requirement of robots. However, presently the use of robots in Indian industries is very limited to about only 3 robots per 10000 employees. This is stark comparison to other Asian powers like South Korea which has highest robot density in the world at about 650 robots followed by Singapore at about 500 robots and Japan at about 300 robots. Thus to remain competitive in market, Indian industries will have no choice other than to adopt the advanced technologies of Robotics and Automation. Therefore there will be huge need of robots and thereby robotics engineers in near future.

Robotics and Automation combines design, construction, operation, and application of robots coupled with computer-based control systems, sensory feedback, and information processing. The design of a robotic system puts together principles of mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, electrical/electronics Engineering, and Computer engineering. An undergraduate degree in Robotics and Automation Engineering specialization will enable students to serve the Industry requirement for implementation of new and smart technologies covering methods of synthesis, analysis and optimization of newer robots and mechanisms. Robotics & Automation Engineering involves design development and up-gradation in terms of automating products, systems and processes in every walk of human life. The graduate of this course will find ample opportunities to work as Robot design engineer, robot programmers, robotics system engineer etc. in the field of industrial automation, manufacturing, agriculture, mining, aerospace, healthcare and defence.

 

The department has a well-qualified, devoted and experienced faculty with average experience more than 10 Years. Four faculty members are with Ph.D. qualification and others with master’s degree in relevant field. Department is well equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and Laboratories like Robotics Lab, Automation Lab, Computer Aided Manufacturing Lab, Robotic Simulation Lab  etc. with excellent computational facilities including professional software packages, such as MATLAB, SolidWorks, Webots, robot simulator etc.  Workshop lab is also well equipped with state of the art machines including CNC, VMC, laser beam machining, 3D printing and other industry grade machines.
